Frame

This frame is in the style of Louis XIV frames rendered on a condensed scale but providing an imposing border for this small scale painting.
The frame makes use of all the ornamented sections by pulling in the edge of the face of the frame to allow the pattern at the back edge to appear as a border around the more detailed front of the frame.
It is most likely the frame in which the painting entered the collection in 1904.
