Great filmmakers including Stanley Kubrick, the Coen brothers and the photographer/director William Klein have devoted their lives to this project, gradually stylising every aspect of their craft – composition, design, soundtrack, and especially acting performance – in order to take cinema away from simple realism and into the realms of the truly satiric.
