Bequests and Planned Giving

Making a Bequest

You can make a lasting contribution to the NGV’s Collection, Conservation and Community Programs through a bequest of your own. A bequest to the NGV enables you to make a contribution that you may not be able to, during your lifetime.

By confirming your bequest, the NGV will be able to acknowledge you as a donor during your lifetime. Individuals will be recognised as Members of the NGV Foundation through bequest pledges of $40,000 or more. A bequest can take many forms, including:

  • gifts of cash expressed as a dollar amount, a percentage of an estate or the residual value of an estate

  • work(s) of art

  • distributions from a trust

  • support for programs to educate, inspire and enrich the lives of audiences

  • support for conservation work to assist in preserving the Collection

In each of these cases, we invite you to speak with the NGV so that we can assure you how your gift will be accepted and applied to the Collection*. The NGV can only accept artworks that are aligned to the NGVs acquisition policy.

Gifts are acknowledged through the NGV Foundation which honours the generous acts of benefaction that have made the NGV the much loved cultural institution it is today.

The NGV Foundation maintains the NGV’s continuing significance for the people of Victoria and visitors from around Australia and all over the world.

*Bequests may be fully spent on a stated purpose, or may be endowed (for all time) from which funds are drawn on annually for the stated purpose. In some situations, bequest gifts are pooled with the NGV Foundation.

WORDING YOUR BEQUEST

When allowing the NGV the full discretion to apply your bequest, we will allocate funds for the acquisition of art works in areas of the greatest opportunity at the time. Suitable forms of wording for this in a Will include:

I give to the Council of Trustees of the National Gallery of Victoria ABN 77 884 986 472, for the acquisition of works of art, x percent of my estate. The receipt of an authorised officer of the National Gallery of Victoria shall be an absolute discharge to my executors.

I give to the Council of Trustees of the National Gallery of Victoria ABN 77 884 986 472, for the acquisition of works of art, the sum of x amount. The receipt of an authorised officer of the National Gallery of Victoria shall be an absolute discharge to my executors.

I give to the Council of Trustees of the National Gallery of Victoria ABN 77 884 986 472, for the acquisition of works of art, the residue of my estate. The receipt of an authorised officer of the National Gallery of Victoria shall be an absolute discharge to my executors.
