Arthur Streeton The Vale of Mittagong 1892

Arthur STREETON
The Vale of Mittagong 1892

Arthur Streeton painted this sweeping view of the Mittagong valley in situ over four to five days. He shows his great technical skill in the panoramic scope and scale of the work, the accuracy of the topography and the minute detail in his depiction of the landscape, streets and houses in the valley. The transparency of the watercolour washes produces a soft effect, contributing to the work’s remarkable atmosphere and clarity of light.
