Nicolas Ghesquière was creative director of French fashion house Balenciaga from 1997 to 2012, where he frequently used elements drawn from active sportswear. The inspiration for these sandals comes from snowboarding boots, their multicoloured components forming a detachable ‘cage’, and the ankles encased in ankle pads and straps.
