Inferno IX, 36-60 and 88-90. The Heavenly Messenger or Angel has now arrived at the Gate of Dis which is guarded by the three hellish Furies; they call upon the Gorgon Medusa to come and turn the Angel into stone. Virgil covers Dante's eyes so that he shall not share the same fate.
