Up, Down and All Around: Daniel Emma for Kids invites budding designers to learn about the role of design in the world we live in. Inspiring young imaginations and engaging children’s problem-solving skills, design duo Daniel Emma, comprising Daniel To and Emma Aiston, invite young visitors to look again at everyday objects and express their creativity through design challenges and hands-on activities.
Exhibition sensory map
This sensory map shows the locations of audio-visual content and seating and can help people with autism or disability prepare for their visit.
You see a peanut; we see a table! Daniel Emma can be inspired by the shape of an object when they are designing new objects. Inspiration train is centrestage in the exhibition, where a sushi train transports a rotation of plates of food for children to view, choose and then design into a new object. Let’s see if an ice-cream can inspire a new design for a chair or a cup!
Build ’em up
Designers ask ‘what if’ when they take materials into their hands. Children are free to play, stack and build with these colourful sets of upholstered geometric forms. Encouraging working together, children can choose what they wish to build during their visit. Look out for animals, rocket ships, robots, cubbyhouses, hidey-holes, tall towers and obstacles.
Funny face maker
Buttons for eyes and a shoelace for a mouth make a funny face! In this activity toddlers and young children can create endless funny faces selecting from sparkly shapes in appealing colours, designed by Daniel Emma. Get the camera ready to take photos of your young child’s series of funny faces and share with friends and family.
Stack a snack
What happens when you swap out cake ingredients with green grass, red lava and grey concrete? Find out when you play Stack a snack! This multimedia interactive encourages children to play with materials and explore the senses when they mix unexpected ingredients together to design digital cakes for fun.
