Level 3, Temporary Exhibitions

18 Sep 15 – 31 Jan 16

Pleasure & Reality brings together new and recent work by five leading Australian contemporary artists: Tony Garifalakis, Nathan Gray, Helen Johnson, Marian Tubbs and Justene Williams. Presenting the latest practices in contemporary art, Pleasure & Reality includes immersive installations, sculpture, video and painting, from Marian Tubbs’ seductive digital compositions to Justene Williams’ hallucinatory performative video works. The exhibition will also include Nathan Gray’s multi-channel video installation Species of Spaces 2013–14; filmed amongst the abandoned and forgotten spaces of Cockatoo Island, the work reconfigures the sounds of the island into an experimental soundscape. Pleasure & Reality reflects the five artists’ shared interest in generating new meanings from everyday images and objects, through works which offer fresh perspectives on the contemporary world.
