Rebecca Baumann

Perth-based artist Rebecca Baumann examines colour, light and time through a range of media, including installation, kinetic sculpture and performance. She is interested in colour theory and frequently interrogates how colour can affect our emotions and behaviours in her practice.

Window work (intersections and notations) is a site-specific installation responding to the distinct architecture of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia’s ‘intrafilament’ spaces. These crossing points between galleries allow views across all levels of the building and are a central feature of the Federation Square architectural design. Baumann has created a choreography of colours, which visually overlap and interact with each other. The immersive environment invites viewers to explore both the gallery spaces and outside world through a multiplicity of shifting views.

Baumann has worked collaboratively with MECCA Brands on their 2018 Holiday collection, inspired by a shared love of vibrant colour. Now in its third year, this partnership sees MECCA Brands’ founder and CEO Jo Horgan support the NGV to acquire works by female Australian contemporary artists for the NGV Collection.
