Part of White Night Reimagined, NGV will be showing Steve Carr: Chasing the Light, an immersive installation featuring six large-scale video projections of drones capturing a fireworks display from multiple perspectives. As the camera flies amongst the fireworks, the viewer is offered a unique vantage that explores the poetics of movement and perspective in this spectacular display.

Steve Carr is one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary artists, working across moving image, sculpture and photography. His practice is primarily concerned with constructing scenarios in which a given situation is complicated by questions of translation. His works often transform one material into another, drawing attention to our sense of time, our bodies and what we experience when phenomena undergo profound physical transmutations.

Steve Carr: Chasing the Light is a Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū artist project in collaboration with the NGV.
