The Earth is Blue

The Art of Dhambit Munuŋgurr

NGV TOURING

Australian Embassy Gallery
4 Rue Jean Rey, Paris, France

25 Oct 24 – 31 Mar 25

Djapu artist Dhambit Munuŋgurr is renowned for her innovative use of acrylic blue paint on bark. Her latest exhibition, La Terre est bleue: L’art de Dhambit Mununggurr (The Earth is Blue: The Art of Dhambit Mununggurr), is the fifth exhibition presented by the NGV to debut at the Australian Embassy in Paris. It features a new series of works on paper that reflect the cultural memories and experiences of her life in northeast Arnhem Land. This marks Munuŋgurr’s first exploration of paper as a medium, departing from her previous works on bark and board.

Building on the success of past NGV exhibitions in Paris, including Blak Rainbow: L’Art de Dylan Mooney, Rituel et Cérémonie: Extrait de Mémoires Ancestrales, Gothique Blanc: Petrina Hicks, and DESTIN: L’Art de Destiny Deacon, this exciting debut exhibition introduces French audiences and international visitors to one of Australia’s most daring and inventive contemporary painters.

The exhibition is presented by the Australian Embassy in Paris in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria and Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka Art Centre, and has been curated by Myles Russell-Cook, Senior Curator of Australian and First Nations Art, NGV.
