About this work

This is an intimate study of the artist’s model, seated facing left, with the fabric of her dress and chemise slipped engagingly off her left shoulder. Renoir undertook numerous small-format studies of the same model in the early 1890s. These charming intimist scenes became highly collectable as boudoir pictures.
