For centuries the central European region of Bohemia had been a major centre for glass production, and by the turn of the twentieth century many of the glassworks patronised by the Wiener Werkstätte and leading Viennese designers were still located there. The Moser Glassworks was established as a polishing and engraving firm and was a major manufacturer of crystal glass. Colours inspired by gemstones were part of the firm’s standard production, particularly glass that was flashed with green or purple. Moser became one of the leading producers of luxury cut crystal in the early twentieth century. During the 1920s the firm produced glassware after designs by a several leading Viennese designers including Josef Hoffmann, Hilda Jesser, Eduard Wimmer-Wisgrill and Dagobert Peche.
