About this work

Curly Bardkadubbu painted on bark for Maningrida Art and Crafts from 1970 onwards, living at Namokardabu outstation. He was renowned for his vigorous painting style, exploiting both the x-ray and rarrk styles characteristic of Eastern Kunwinjku art. Common subjects included namarrkon (lightning), ngalyod (rainbow serpent), namanjwarre (estuarine crocodile), ngaldadmurrng (saratoga), birndu (mosquito), and kandakidj (red kangaroo).
