inscribed in pencil on old mount: Ce dessin a été fait en 1823 pour M. Thiers par le célébre peintre Férard. Il le fit d'après le portrait de Latour peint d'après nature en 1764 et le seul que Rousseau avouât come ressemblant. Le portrait venoit d'être retrouvé à cette époque. Donné par M. Thiers à H. M. Ashburton. 1848
