Frame
Original, by Aitken Dott & Son, Edinburgh

Frame

The framers label can be found at the centre top reverse of the frame.

Framemaker
Aitken Dott & Son

26 So. Castle St., Edinburgh
Materials

The frame is representative of many frames of this type, being built on a wooden chassis and using extensive composition work to build the elaborate Louis XV revival, pierced and scrolled, swept edge form.  The taenia is burnish gilding on a red bole.  The rest of the surface is matte.

Condition

The raised taenia appears to retain the original surface along with the slip.  The rest of the surface of the frame remains ambiguous and may not be original.
