Frame
Original, John Thallon, Melbourne, possibly recycled

Frame

The label on the frame suggests a date between 1896 and 1908.  The construction is a hybrid style reflecting earlier forms but making interesting use of recessing the corner ornaments into the leading edge.  The frame is either recycled or the label does not reflect the date at which the frame was made.

Framemaker
John Thallon
Melbourne
Date
1896-1908
Materials

The frame uses composition ornaments on a wooden chassis, consisting of a complex fluted profile, mitred at the corners.  The foliate corner ornaments have been recessed into the leading edge.  The surface is gilded throughout with false gold which carries a dark patination.
