Physical description
The white, glazed figure group shows the Virgin Mary seated with her arm around the Christ Child who reaches across her lap to touch the Infant Saint John, held by the kneeling figure of his mother, Saint Elizabeth. The composition is after Raphael's invention, the so-called 'Small Holy Family' in the Louvre. (This was known through an engraving by Francois Poilly)
