William Morris was a pioneer of the Arts and Crafts movement and one of the most influential figures in British design history. In 1861 he founded the design firm Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in partnership with the artists Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The firm produced stained glass, furniture, wallpaper and fabrics, all of which had a profound impact on the decoration of churches and houses well into the early twentieth century. The stained-glass windows for the Cheadle Royal Hospital chapel consisted of full-length figures from the Bible.
