Marguerite of Austria
Lived: 25 December 1584 – 3 October 1611
Wife and second cousin of Philip III.
Marguerite was a great patron of the arts, who devoted her life to pious foundations and charitable works. As well as her husband receiving many gifts of important paintings, Marguerite also benefitted. She received works by Jacopo da Empoli, Alessandro and Cristofano Allori and Domenico Passignano, as well as a magnificent painting by Federico Barocci, all from Florence. She died giving birth to their eighth child and Philip III never re-married.
