Jean Paul Gaultier Dress 1987

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, Paris (fashion house)
 Jean Paul GAULTIER (designer)

This Dress reveals Gaultier’s longstanding fascination with and transformation of lingerie. With its stretch panels and circular-stitched, cone-shaped cups quoted from 1940s and 1950s foundation garments, Gaultier’s interpretation has become a modern classic. This influential work was a precursor to later versions that Gaultier designed for Madonna’s Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990.

This Dress is included in the exhibition The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk on at NGV International until 8 February 2015.
