What is design? What do designers do? Join an NGV educator to investigate how designers solve problems, address needs, present possibilities, tell stories, and imagine the future through their work. Students will discover how design is both a process and a way of thinking that shapes how we live, work and play. Discussion and activities in this program will be tailored to the level of the group.

Students will:

  • Understand the concept of ‘design’, the design process and the role of a designer.
  • Discuss and analyse examples of design from different times, places and cultures.
  • Discuss the different factors which influence and inform design choices including ethical, environmental, and social considerations.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student

    We require four weeks notice for all bookings.

    Changes to your booking must be made in writing. Changes can be made up to 14 days prior to your visit. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.

    Please note: the National Gallery of Victoria has two locations. NGV International holds our Collection of works from around the world, and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is home to our Collection of Australian art. When submitting your booking request, please indicate which location you would like to visit.

    Study Focus

    Please provide details of any relevant themes and skills your students are learning about at school. While we cannot offer individually tailored programs, our museum educators will consider this information when selecting and discussing works of art during the program.

    Date Selection

    We recommend you provide three date options for your program to avoid disappointment. We will do our best to accommodate your first preference, however due to high demand this may not always be possible.

    We do not take tentative bookings. Bookings are considered firm at time of booking. Any amendments, including changes to participant numbers, must be made by email at least 14 days prior to the program. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments. Payment must be paid at least one week prior to the visit.
