Explore thought-provoking works from the NGV Collection, using art as a springboard for developing visual literacy and creative writing. Through engaging with diverse artworks, students will experiment with language, literary devices, and rich descriptive vocabulary to craft short written pieces, including poetry and descriptive writing. Led by an NGV educator this program fosters imagination, deepens the connection between art and words, and enhances students’ literacy skills through viewing and interpreting art.

This program will be tailored to the level of the students.

Students will:

  • Analyse works of art and design from different cultural, historical and contemporary contexts using deep looking and close reading techniques.
  • Create short pieces of creative writing incorporating rich vocabulary and descriptive phrases.
  • Experiment with apply literary devices such as metaphor, simile and personification to enhance and develop creative writing.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $11 per student

    We require four weeks notice for all bookings.

    Changes to your booking must be made in writing. Changes can be made up to 14 days prior to your visit. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.

NGV International holds our Collection of works from around the world, and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is home to our Collection of Australian art. When submitting your booking request, please indicate which location you would like to visit.

    Study Focus

    Please provide details of any relevant themes and skills your students are learning about at school. While we cannot offer individually tailored programs, our museum educators will consider this information when selecting and discussing works of art during the program.

    We do not take tentative bookings. Bookings are considered firm at time of booking. Any amendments, including changes to participant numbers, must be made by email at least 14 days prior to the program. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments. Payment must be paid at least one week prior to the visit.
