Belonging, Community and Belief

Mon–Fri, 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm
Levels 3–4
NGV International

What does it mean to belong to a religious tradition? How do individuals form communities of belief? Explore our extensive collection of religious artworks with an NGV educator in this engaging in-gallery session. Students will encounter inspiring works of art that explore stories from sacred texts and express religious beliefs and will consider how artists represent the beauty and richness of religious experience and tradition through colour and symbolism.

Students will:

  • Discuss the role and purpose of religious art and how artists express belief.
  • Discuss what it means to belong to a religious community.
  • Analyse and interpret artworks and symbols from different religious traditions.

This session is designed for sacramental programs leading to Communion and is suitable for religious education.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student
