Discover how ideas and themes are presented in an NGV exhibition. In this educator-led tour for VCE Art Making and Exhibiting students, analyse and discuss some of the curatorial considerations, exhibition design ethos, and conservation methods involved in preparing and presenting Grace Crowley and Ralph Balson.
This program aligns with VCE Art Making and Exhibiting Learning Outcomes: 

  • Unit 2: Understand, develop and resolve, Area of Study 1, Outcome 1 
  • Unit 3: Collect, extend and connect, Area of Study 3, Outcome 3 
  • Unit 4: Consolidate, present and conserve, Area of Study 3, Outcome 3 

Cost: $10.5 per student 
Duration: 1 Hour
Students will:

  • Discover the significant role Crowley and Balson played in the development of abstract art in Australia.
  • Analyse the materials, techniques and processes involved in Crowley and Balson’s artwork.
  • Identify and connect specific features of the artists’ work to their wider historical, cultural and social context.
