Explore the Gallery’s extensive collection of historic and contemporary First Nations art. Join an NGV educator to view and respond to diverse works, including Wurrdha Marra, our dedicated display of First Nations art and design. Through lively and informative discussions about works by emerging and senior artists and designers, students will gain insights into a range of ideas that contribute to the rich diversity of First Nations culture and creativity. Students will explore concepts such as connection to Country, and how artists and designers maintain and regenerate cultural traditions and create new forms of expression.

Students will:

  • Identify and discuss ideas that inform First Nations art, design and culture, including connection to Country.
  • Identify and analyse approaches and ideas in works by different groups of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Discuss First Nations perspectives on history and culture.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student

For VCE students, this program supports elements of VCE Literature Unit 2, Area of Study 1: Voices of Country.

About Wurrdha Marra
Located on the ground floor of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Wurrdha Marra focuses on exhibiting First Nations art and design, drawn from the NGV Collection. The space offers educators and students a unique opportunity to explore the NGV’s rich and diverse collection of First Nations art and design.

Booking Form

    We require four weeks notice for all bookings.

    Changes to your booking must be made in writing. Changes can be made up to 14 days prior to your visit. Invoices will be sent prior to the visit. Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.

    Study Focus

    Please provide details of any relevant themes and skills your students are learning about at school. While we cannot offer individually tailored programs, our museum educators will consider this information when selecting and discussing works of art during the program.

    We recommend you provide three date options for your program to avoid disappointment. We will do our best to accommodate your first preference, however due to high demand this may not always be possible.
