Introducing Yayoi Kusama for Tertiary Students

Mon-Fri, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm
Level Tertiary
NGV International

Explore the dynamic life and expansive career of Yayoi Kusama, one of the world’s most prolific and recognisable artists living today. Join an NGV educator to learn about Kusama’s artistic development and the way in which her work connects with key art movements of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, including minimalism, pop art, performance and feminist art. This interactive discussion will examine Kusama’s ideas, influences, materials and techniques and provide opportunities to analyse and interpret select works from the exhibition and discuss the curatorial considerations and thematic connections related to the presentation of works in the exhibition.

Students will:

  • Analyse and interpret the cultural and intersectional influences and ideas expressed in selected artworks in the exhibition
  • Substantiate interpretations of artworks with evidence taken from the artworks themselves and with reference to a range of sources
  • Discuss how curatorial considerations inform the presentation of art works in the exhibition

Duration: 45 minutes plus self-guided time in the exhibition
Cost: $45.50 per student
