Levels VCE

What is art? What is the purpose and value of art? What is the intentionalist fallacy? In this educator led gallery session students will explore a range of thought-provoking works in the NGV Collection and debate problems in value theory with a focus on aesthetic value and interpretation of artworks.

Students will:

  • Formulate philosophical questions arising from the problems central to aesthetic value and the interpretation of artworks.
  • Discuss and debate key philosophical concepts and questions related to aesthetic value in response to works in the NGV Collection.
  • Develop informed responses to problems in value theory and explain, defend and refine those responses in philosophical exchanges with others.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student
