Programs include free online exhibition briefings, alongside full and half-day programs focused on strategies and skills for teaching with art and design across multiple Learning areas, Capabilities and Cross-curriculum priorities, including Art and Design, History, English, First Nations histories and cultures, LOTE, EAL, and wellbeing.

NGV as a Teaching Resource

The National Gallery of Victoria offers endless possibilities for teaching and learning not for only Visual Arts and Design, but for all areas of the Curriculum. Discover the learning programs and resources on offer, develop strategies for engaging with works of art and design and get tips for planning a successful visit to the Gallery.

 Encountering the Sacred Through Art

Learn how to use the NGV as a resource for Religious Education! Develop a deeper appreciation of the Judeo-Christian and Catholic traditions by unpacking stories, ideas, signs, and symbols in artworks and exploring how these connect to past and contemporary contexts. Gain practical strategies and skills for using artworks and artmaking to support inquiry and learning.

 Art and Wellbeing for Educators

How can art enhance wellbeing for students and teachers in school communities? Discover evidence-based techniques to manage stress, boost creativity and foster a positive mindset. Using works from the NGV Collection, this program integrates enriching art-based experiences with practical wellbeing strategies, providing participants with tools that can be incorporated into their professional practice and personal lives.

To prepare for your booking, please note the following:

  • Bookings are essential for all school and student groups
  • Bookings must be made at least 4 weeks in advance of visit
  • All programs are presented by experienced educators
  • A teacher or adult accompanying your group is also welcome to translate during the visit

Terms and Conditions

Please note the following terms and conditions prior to booking:

  • All bookings are confirmed at time of booking. Tentative bookings are not accepted
  • Invoices will be issued by NGV prior to visit. Payment must be paid at least one week prior to the visit
  • Requests to amend confirmed booking details (such as change to participant numbers), must be made by email at least 14 days prior to visit.
  • Full program fees will be incurred for late cancellations or amendments.
  • No refund for variance in student number during visit.
  • Students must be supervised at all times by a teacher or adult.
