Extended hours for MoMA at NGV announced

Until 8 October 2018 | NGV International | Admission fees apply

Due to popular demand, the NGV has announced extended opening hours for MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art, which will now close on Monday 8 October.

Visitors can also enjoy early access to the exhibition from 8.30am daily from 22 September to 7 October.

Additional late nights have been added, with live jazz performances by Aurore Duet, food, drinks and after-hours access to the exhibition on Thursday 4 October and Sunday 7 October from 6 – 10pm.

The final NGV Friday Nights takes place on 5 October, with Brooklyn-based, contemporary jazz trumpeter Maurice Brown headlining the closing act, and performing a special encore performance on Saturday 6 October.

A further highlight of the closing weekend is Simone Forti’s performance work Huddle, 1961, which will be performed for the final time in its Australian premiere by Dance and Theatre students from the Victoria College of the Arts on Saturday 6 October. The piece will be performed three times between 11am – 12pm.

MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art is part of the Victorian Government’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series and is the largest installment of the series to date. Since opening on 9 June 2018, the exhibition has welcomed more than 300,000 national and international visitors.

The internationally exclusive MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art has been co-organised by the NGV and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and presents more than 230 modern and contemporary masterpieces by artists including Georgia O’Keeffe, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo. The exhibition highlights the depth and breadth of MoMA’s vast collection and features artworks from each of its six curatorial departments.

Once MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art closes, the next major exhibition at NGV International will be the solo-exhibition of British artist Julian Opie, before the arrival of the highly anticipated Summer blockbuster, Escher x nendo | Between Two Worlds on 2 December.
