To celebrate the final weeks of Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, the exhibition will be open for extended hours from this week, a final Saturday night performance featuring Robert Foster, 24 hour opening, and more talks and DJs announced.

Final Weeks of Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei:

  • Extended opening hours from 16 April to 21 April until 9pm every night
  • New performance announced, featuring Robert Forster on Saturday 23 April
  • 24 hour opening from 10pm Saturday 23 April to 10pm Sunday 24 April
  • Exhibition run extended until Anzac Day, 25 April from 1pm – 5pm

On Saturday 23 April, Australian singer-songwriter Robert Forster will perform from his latest album, Songs to Play, his first album in seven years. Best known as the co-founder of the rock band The Go-Betweens, Forster has become one of Australia’s most respected musicians and a singular talent on the Australian music scene.

During the 24 hour opening event on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April, visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including further insights about the artists in a pop-up talk from screen and sound researcher Hugh Davies, La Trobe University, a selection of food and drinks inspired by Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei offered in the Great Hall bar and Gallery Kitchen, and music by one of Australia’s most exciting and multi-talented producers, DJ Oscar Key Sung.

The exhibition will also be extended to open 1 – 5pm on Anzac Day, Monday 25 April.

Tony Ellwood, Director, NGV said, ‘To celebrate the last weeks of Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei we will be extending hours and presenting DJ performances, more talks and art forums. The exhibition has attracted more than 300,000 visitors and I encourage all Melburnians and visitors to come and see the exhibition before it departs for Andy Warhol’s hometown of Pittsburgh.’

Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, a world-first exhibition, reveals the significant influence of Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei, focusing on the parallels and intersections between the two artists’ practices. The exhibition, which features more than 300 works, explores modern and contemporary art, life and cultural politics through the activities of two exemplary figures – one of whom represents twentieth century modernity and the ‘American century’; and the other contemporary life in the twenty-first century and what has been heralded as the ‘Chinese century’ to come.

Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei is presented in association with The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, and the studio of Ai Weiwei. The exhibition will travel to The Andy Warhol Museum following the National Gallery of Victoria.
