The President of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Council of Trustees, Mr Allan Myers, today announced the appointment of new Council member, Mr Corbett Lyon.
Mr Myers said he was pleased to welcome Mr Lyon as the newest member of the Council of Trustees.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Mr Lyon to the NGV Council of Trustees. As a leading architect, academic and patron of the arts he brings with him a wealth of experience. I am sure he will make a great contribution to the Gallery,” said Mr Myers.
Mr Lyon is a founding director of Melbourne based architectural and planning practice Lyons. He has been involved in the planning and design of many award winning public buildings throughout Australia.
In addition to his practice, he lectures widely on architectural design and has been a keynote speaker at many national and international design forums. In 2012 he was appointed a member of the Victorian Government’s newly created Victorian Design Review Panel.
Mr Lyon is one of Australia’s leading patrons and collectors of Australian contemporary art and with his wife Yueji has established the Lyon Collection and Housemuseum in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. He is also a Visiting Professor in Architectural Design at the University of Melbourne and is an Honorary Fellow at Monash University.
Mr Lyon said it was a great privilege to be invited to join the Gallery’s Council of Trustees.
“The NGV holds a very special place in the minds of all Victorians and I’m very much looking forward to working with President Myers, Council members and the NGV’s new Director Tony Ellwood during these next steps of the Gallery’s development,” said Mr Lyon.
