Winner announced for the Goldman Sachs People’s Choice Award

Top Arts: VCE 2010 has again proven to be one of the National Gallery of Victoria’s most popular annual exhibitions, with thousands of students, teachers and families visiting the show and voting in the Goldman Sachs  People’s Choice Award. First place was awarded to Philip Hickingbotham for his superb portrait, Edge of Darkness.

NGV Deputy Director, Frances Lindsay, said: “Each year I am amazed by the exceptional talent of the Top Arts exhibitors. Especially in our 150th year, the NGV is proud to be showcasing the work of Victoria’s emerging visual artists and I congratulate all three finalists in the People’s Choice Award.”

This year, over 13,000 people voted in the Goldman Sachs People’s Choice Award. The Award acknowledges the support provided to artists by their art teachers and schools, with cash prizes awarded to the art department of the winning artists’ schools.

Top Arts features 55 works by 53 students from government, independent and Catholic schools from across Victoria. Top Arts: VCE 2010 is showing at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia until 19 June.
