Lauren Berkowitz

Born 1965, Melbourne, Victoria; lives and works in Melbourne. Lauren Berkowitz is an installation artist, working mostly with ephemeral and site-specific works. She studied fine art (sculpture), at RMIT University (1983–85) and the Victorian College of the Arts (1988–89) before completing a Master of Fine Art at the School of Visual Arts in New York (1992–93). Notable recent projects include Manna, La Trobe University Museum of Art, Melbourne, 2009; Aichi Triennale, Aichi Arts Center Art Space, Nagoya, Japan, 2010; In the Balance: Art for a Changing World, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, 2010; and Visceral Forms, Utopian Slumps, Melbourne, 2012. Berkowitz’s practice has been the subject of numerous publications, including Lauren Berkowitz (2001); Tide (2004); and Demeter’s Garden: Lauren Berkowitz (2007).
