Born 1952, Perth, Western Australia; lives and works in Melbourne.
Carlier Makigawa studied jewellery at the Claremont and Fremantle Technical Colleges from 1974 to 1977 and in 1980 gained a Bachelor of Art (Design) from the Western Australian Institute of Technology. She completed a Masters of Fine Art at RMIT University in 1987. Makigawa received an Australian Council Fellowship in 1993 and was the Australia Korea Foundation Artist in Residence in 1996. Makigawa’s exhibitions include Unexpected Pleasures: The Art and Design of Contemporary Jewellery, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and Design Museum, London, 2012–13; Nature and Structure, Gallery Funaki, Melbourne, 2012; and the Cicely & Colin Rigg Contemporary Design Award, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 2006.
