Born 1972, Auckland, New Zealand; lives and works in Melbourne. Daniel von Sturmer completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996 and a Master of Arts in 1999 at RMIT University. Between 2002 and 2003 he studied at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. In 2007 von Sturmer represented Australia at the 52nd Venice Biennale with the exhibition The Object of Things. Solo exhibitions include The Field Equation, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2005; small world, Anna Schwartz Gallery, Melbourne, 2012; and After Images, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2013. Recent group exhibitions include Close Your Eyes and Tell Me What You See, Gothenburg Museum of Art, Sweden, 2011; Less is More: Minimal and Post-Minimal Art in Australia, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, 2012; and Shape-Shifters, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, New Zealand, 2013.
