Darren Sylvester

Born 1974, Sydney, New South Wales; lives and works in Melbourne. Darren Sylvester completed a Master of Fine Art at Monash University in 2010 after having previously gained a Bachelor of Fine Art in Photography (Graphic Design) from Charles Sturt University. He has exhibited in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally. Recent solo shows include the major survey exhibition Our Future Was Ours, Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney, 2008, and subsequent exibitions at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, 2010, and Volta, New York, 2013. Group exhibitions include Wonderlust, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth, 2008; Contemporary Australia: Optimism, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, 2008; and Mortality, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2010. Sylvester was awarded the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award in 2011. He also works as a pop musician, with second album Off By Heart released in 2013.
