March Studio

March Studio is an architecture and graphic design practice established by Rodney Eggleston and Anne-Laure Cavigneaux in 2007. Embracing opportunities in retail design for stores in Melbourne, Sydney, Zurich, Paris and New York saw their practice catapulted into the world of internet blogs and a wider media engagement with design which they continue with recent residential projects. Their architecture and interiors are defined by witty, playful, and often opportunistic explorations of materials and manufacturing techniques, delivering outcomes that are, for all their effects, remarkably humble in their presentation.

March Studio Now

18 months in 3,277 images.

It’s hard to make out the top few rows when you look up at over three thousand images, 4.5 metres high. It’s hard to believe each image is a detailed drawing or high-resolution photograph, which at one point in time was labored over for many hours.

From the top left to the bottom right, a sequence of 3,277 images capture the breadth of imagery an architecture practice churns through in 18 months. Within the chronology of the datascape we can see projects starting, finishing, going nowhere, or black rectangles for those that have died.  Whilst each and every project is unique, the constant grind of an architecture office is relentless. Working in a creative field that has constant time constraints it’s nice to stand back and appreciate this small snapshot, even if it’s only for a short while.
