Robert Baines

Born 1949, Melbourne; lives and works in Melbourne.

Robert Baines completed a Diploma of Art, Gold and Silversmithing, at RMIT University in 1970. In 2006, Baines completed a PhD at RMIT University, where he is currently an Associate Professor and the Coordinator of Gold and Silversmithing. In 2007 Baines received a senior research scholarship in The Sherman Fairchild Center for Objects Conservation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Baines was represented in Unexpected Pleasures: The Art and Design of Contemporary Jewellery, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and Design Museum, London, 2012–13. Recent solo exhibitions include The Schatzkammer: A Treasury of Evidence, Designmuseo, Helsinki, 2008; Close Up, TarraWarra Museum of Art, Healesville, 2005; and Robert Baines, Staatliche Antikensammlungen, Munich, 2004.
