Simon Obarzanek

Born 1968, Kibbutz Galon, Israel; arrived in Australia 1974; lives and works in Melbourne. Simon Obarzanek completed a Bachelor of Photography at RMIT University in 1989. He was the winner of the Second Melbourne Airport Innovators Award at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, 2008, and his work is represented in several public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Powerhouse Museum and Gold Coast City Art Gallery. He has held a series of solo shows including Simon Obarzanek, Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne, 2008, and Untitled Movement, Turner Galleries, Perth, 2010. He has exhibited in numerous group shows including Photographic Portrait Prize, National Portrait Gallery, London, 2005; The Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 2005; Light Sensitive, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 2006; William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, Monash Gallery of Art, 2007; Order and Disorder: Archives and Photography, National Gallery of Victoria, 2008–09; and Negotiating this World: Contemporary Australian Art, National Gallery of Victoria, 2012.
