Melbourne Design Now is a presentation of localised creative intelligence in the fields of industrial, product, furniture and object design. Celebrating design’s relationship to everyday life, Melbourne Design Now reveals how contemporary designers are embedding unique and serial design production with ideas, meaning and emotion to resonate with the city of Melbourne. The exhibition is presented in three sections and has been curated to extrapolate five themes:
Design and Social Culture
Design and the Economy
Design and the Human Body
Design and Sustainability
Design and Visual Culture
This component of the exhibition consists of the Bolwell EDGE caravan sited in the Grollo Equiset Garden at NGV International, as a case study of the Design and Social Culture theme. Designed by Vaughan Bolwell, the caravan is home to the Melbourne Now Design Residency operating from Thursday through to Sunday 10am–2pm as a designer's studio. Designers will be conducting day-to-day practice and working on special projects.
Melbourne Design Now is curated by Simone LeAmon and featuring: exhibition design by Simone LeAmon and Edmund Carter.
