Daniel Crooks is well known for his arresting video works in which he masterfully splices and rearranges once-familiar environments into abstracted time-space explorations. An embroidery of voids 2013, newly commissioned for Melbourne Now, sees Crooks apply his ‘time-splice’ treatment to Melbourne’s celebrated laneways. As the film tracks an endless path through Melbourne’s laneways, the viewer is immersed in a phenomenological rush through the city’s subconscious spaces.
