Susan Jacobs

Susan Jacobs works across drawing, sculpture, site-responsive installation and video. For Melbourne Now, she has fabricated a rudimentary version of Hemacite, a material developed in the late nineteenth century and made from the blood of slaughtered animals and wood flour, which can be moulded to create objects such as buttons and handles. Jacob’s reconstitution of this outmoded material initiates consideration of the philosophical, economic and ethical implications around manufacturing.
