A resurgence in bespoke shoemaking practices has resulted in small studios emerging across Melbourne. This installation reveals the extraordinary craftsmanship involved in creating shoes from scratch through a presentation of men’s and women’s shoes, featuring new takes on old classics – like the lace-up brogue – as well as bold innovations and unexpected forms. The makers come from diverse backgrounds: some are self-taught, whilst others have undertaken apprenticeships with ‘old-school’ shoemakers.
