Born in Melbourne, Lisa Waup was separated from her Indigenous family at a young age and has slowly reconnected with her Torres Strait Islander and Gunditjmara heritage. She also has an affinity with Melanesian art and culture, having lived and worked in Papua New Guinea. She is drawn to feathers and woven forms as tangible signifiers of culture and place. Her Cultural nesting comprises five baskets composed of emu feathers interwoven with other local materials.
