Contemporary Taungurong artist Steven Rhall grew up on Wathaurong Country and now lives in Footscray on Boonwurrung land. His powerful Kulin project explores the scarred Countries of the Kulin Nation, which encompass Melbourne and its surrounds. Photographs of quotidian urban spaces, such as street corners and parking lots, show land inexorably altered through colonisation yet, perhaps unexpectedly, in these beautiful and unpretentious images, the artist also discovers echoes of Koorie diamond designs that recall and honour the traditional owners of Melbourne.
