In recent years there has been an especially lively context in Melbourne of independent art magazines and blogs developed by a new generation of editors, writers, artists and designers. These have created the conditions for engaged forms of art discourse that are local in tenor but international in outlook, and which are informed by different literary, theoretical and art-historical positions. Designed by architectural collective SIBLING and featuring publications such as Discipline, Higher Arc, un Magazine, Vault and West Space Journal; small press imprints such as Surpllus, 3-ply and The Narrows; and other titles from the fields of architecture and design.
