Gareth Sansom has exhibited his paintings, drawings and collages since the late 1950s and is well known as former Head of Painting and Dean of the School of Art at the Victorian College of the Arts between 1977 and 1991. In his current works, Sansom continues his exploration of the relationship between abstract and figurative modes in a series of highly coloured and expressive paintings created through an untempered stream-of-consciousness approach.
