Since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2002, Arlo Mountford has created a series of distinctive digital animations that playfully but critically engage with the history of art. For Melbourne Now, Mountford has created a new two-channel video installation titled Walking the line, a reference to Paul Klee’s famous description of drawing as ‘taking a line for a walk’. Mountford’s signature stick figures navigate their way through the NGV’s collection, past iconic works such as Fred Williams’s Pilbara Series, 1979-81, and Mark Rothko’s Untitled (Red), 1956.
