Georgia Metaxas presents works from her series The Mourners as part of Melbourne Now. These five stately photographs depict women dressed in ‘women’s weeds’, an entirely black outfit worn as a symbol of perpetual mourning following the death of their husbands. Photographed against plain black backdrops, these women form an austere and mournful frieze.
